The Icitabo Diary #18

We have been making some fantastic progress over here at The Icitabo Project, and we are all working together very hard to prepare for our Speak Out on the 6th of March.

Last Tuesday, the 27th of February, we had a visit from Mr. Michael Chanda, a native Zambian man who is now working in Ireland with the Irish Aid Centre, the very same place we visited a few weeks ago. We all had a fantastic time, and Michael gave us some excellent information about Zambian culture, and told us about his life growing up, and how he himself had lived on the street as a child. This really showed us how much of an impact our library could have on the children of Kabwe.

We then finished off the workshop with a native Zambian dance Michael taught us, accompanied with some traditional drumming and singing. We all thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, and would like to thank Michael very much for taking the time to come and visit us!

Later that day, our presenters at the YSI Speak Out had a rehearsal after school, and practised all of their lines and their delivery. The rehearsal went very well, and we are very excited to have the chance to spread awareness of our project with so many like-minded people.

In other news, our phone application is finally done, and we are currently in the proces of publishing it on the Google Play Store. We hope that it will come in useful for any foreign aid workers making the journey to Zambia who want to learn some Bemba. We would like to thank our translations committee for all the hard work they have put into it, and we hope you enjoy it.

Finally, we would like to remind you that fundraising for the RunaMuk challenge is underway, and we would find it exceptionally helpful if you could donate just a few euro if you have the chance. We are so close to our goal, there is no turning back!

As always, thank you for your continued support,

~The Icitabo Team
