ABOUT US

We are a group of Transition Year students in St. Fintan's High School Sutton, participating in a Young Social Innovators project. The aim of our project is to both construct and provide books for a library in Kabwe, Zambia, the most polluted city in Africa due to years of unregulated metal extraction and refinement.

We hope to send books to Sables Nua, within Kabwe itself, specifically those which will be translated into the local language Bemba by ourselves, so the children of Kabwe will hopefully receive a better education and learn to read in their own language, and provide a better life for themselves in the years to come.

the Icitabo Project itself is headed by Eoin Kelly, as well as being made up of 4 core committees, each of which are listed below.

  • Communications- This committee will be responsible for maintaining communication between The Project, School Staff and Zambian contacts

  • Fundraising- This committee will be tasked with gathering funds necessary for The Project, as well as managing said funds.

  • Books/Literacy Research- This committee is charged with gathering books, as well as assessing their difficulty and appropriateness for the children of Kabwe

  • Language/Translations- This committee is responsible for the translations of the books into Bemba, as well as learning Zambian cultural customs.
