And so it begins...

Our school competed in the Young Social Innovators competition for the first time last year and came second, which is fantastic for their first time. This year we hope to emulate their success by educating children in a disadvantaged area called Sables Nua in Kabwe, Zambia.

Sables Nua is a primary school and night shelter that provides education, shelter and food to some of the most marginalised children in the world. However the problem is that the necessary resources such as books aren’t being mass produced for these children in this area. That is where we come in. Our mission is to send books over to Sables Nua and build a library for the children there. Some of these books will be in English and some will be in their official language, Bemba. As a result, the name of our project is “The Icitabo Project”. “Icitabo”means “book” in Bemba. These books will be be bright, colourful children’s books, some with an African twang to them.

A group of fifteen students will go over to Sables Nua in 2019 to hopefully build this library. However we need to fundraise in order for this to happen. We hope to carry out different fundraising events in our school throughout the school year, so if you can, donations would be greatly appreciated. If possible, these donations could be in the form of books as well. Everything will go towards our project and will help the children greatly over in Zambia.

As part of our project we will be talking to three high profiled people, in order to gain as much advice and publication as possible from them. We have set up Instagram, Facebook and GoFundMe accounts, so you can play your part by donating to us and following us to see how we are working towards improving education for these children. This website can also keep you up to date, as there will be a regular blog which will inform you of our activities.

On behalf of all of the students and committees taking part in The Icitabo Project I would just like to say that we are all very passionate about our project. We really thank you for your support, and we hope you can join us in making children’s lives better over in Sables Nua!
