This week we have has the most productive week we have ever had here at the Icitabo Project. Pat Fanning, the principal of the Sables Nua school came to our school for a surprise visit, and we had a fantastic meeting where we we got to ask a lot of very important questions, and to get definitive answers for them.
Our translator, Joseph Bwembya sent us the finished translation of the book "Handa's Surprise", and it looks fantastic. We gave a copy to Pat so he could read over it and make sure that everything was OK with it, and we also enquired as to the possibility of gathering stories from some of the children who are currently attending the Sables Nua school. Pat said that this would be a good idea, but if we are sending them back to Kabwe we would have to change them so thats you wouldn't be able to recognise the person. Pat also said that it would be nice if we would be able to illustrate some of the stories.
Unfortunately, the Sables Nua school is currently closed due to an out break of cholera in Zambia. Pat said that there has been over 3000 cases in the past three weeks, and we hope that it passes soon and that the school will be back up and running as soon as possible.
We have also managed to organize shipment for books to Kabwe, and as an added bonus we are able to keep the container they are shipped in, and we could use this container as storage for the books while the library is being built. We have lots of room for books to be shipped, and Pat told us that we should send as many as we can, but that we should focus on very basic books, as most of the children don't have a very good level of reading. If anybody reading this has some disused childrens books they'd like to donate, why not send us a message and we'll send them to Kabwe!
As always, thank you all very much for your continued support, and we will have more great news for you next week!
